Meet Mark. Mark was raised in Pennsylvania and Utah. His love of photography began at the age of ten when he saved up enough money to buy a 35mm Pentax. He took it everywhere. However, it wasn’t until part way through his college education at Brigham Young University that he discovered that he could turn his passion into a career. He dropped the chemistry half of his double major to focus on finishing his degree in photography.

Today, Mark runs a thriving freelance photography business with clients including Target, West Elm, One Kings Lane, Food52, Kenneth Cole, Aveda and Whole Foods Market.

Mark Weinberg lives in New York City with his wife Liz and their baby Samuel. He specializes in commercial and advertising photography of interiors, architecture and food. Mark shoots for a variety of companies including: Target, West Elm, One Kings Lane, Food52, Kenneth Cole, Aveda, Whole Foods Market. Session One: Creating a Portfolio

To start getting jobs as a freelance photographer, you need a portfolio. Building a portfolio is the first step in establishing yourself and preparing to reach out to potential clients. In this session, we will show you how to establish yourself as a professional photographer, hone your style and build a portfolio that clients will notice.

This session will cover:

– Establishing yourself a professional photographer

Session Two: Setting Up Shop

Building a commercial photography business can be really expensive if you don’t understand the how to manage your business. You can save a lot of time, money and frustration if you build a strong foundation for your business to grow on. This session will help you create systems that will streamline your processes, and help you build a strong foundation for your business.

This session will cover:

– Packing and pricing your work
– Things you should buy for your business (and things that are a waste of money)
– Basic business accounting practices
– Time Management

Session Three: Building Your Business

There are lots of different types of freelance photography businesses you  can build. The key is finding the type of business that makes the most sense for your life. This session will help you understand the freelance photography market, so you can figure out where you fit in.  And give you a plan for finding clients for your photography business.

– Understanding the Freelance Market
– Starting a successful freelance career
– Breaking into commercial photography
– Finding new clients for your business
