David Plunkert’s illustrations have appeared in advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 companies as well as major newspapers, magazines, and recording labels. His work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, the Society of Illustrators, and The New York Art Directors’ Club. He has been featured in numerous books including: Cool Type, New Masters of Poster Design, The Greatest Rock Albums that Never Were, and Mixing Messages.

Allison Cole is an illustrator and artist who never stops creating. Over the past twelve years, she has worked with a wide variety of clients that span many different industries, including advertising, editorial, stationery, wall art, giftware, home furnishings, apparel, bolt fabric, and book covers. In addition to her client work, Allison launched her own boutique stationery line in 2014, Handmade by Allison Cole, that specializes in eco-friendly printed cards featuring her whimsical illustrations.

Llew Mejia is a San Francisco based stylistic illustrator skilled in hand-drawn illustration, pattern/print, packaging, branding, and computer generated illustration. He has worked with some of the most innovative brands in the world including: Starbucks Coffee, ADIDAS, OAK NYC, Reebok, Patagonia , ANTHROPOLOGIE, Time Out NY, Target , and Chipotle Mexican Grill, just to name a few.

The Schedule:

Session One: Careers in Advertising Illustration with David Plunkert

This session will give you an inside look at how David Plunkert built his career in advertising illustration.

David Plunkert’s illustrations have appeared in advertising campaigns for Fortune 500 companies as well as major newspapers, magazines, and recording labels. His work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, Graphis, Print, the Society of Illustrators, and The New York Art Directors’ Club. He has been featured in numerous books including: Cool Type, New Masters of Poster Design, The Greatest Rock Albums that Never Were, and Mixing Messages. He has taught graphic design and illustration at Shepherd College and Maryland Institute College of Art, in addition to lecturing for AIGA Chapters throughout the U.S. His work has been collected by museums and private collectors, and has been exhibited internationally. He has received a bronze medal from the Society of Illustrators LA and a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators NY. He and Joyce Hesselberth co-founded Spur Design in 1995.

This session will cover:

– Creating art for advertising campaigns

Session Two: Careers in Product Design with Allison Cole

This session will give you an inside look at how Allison Cole built her career designing products with her art.

Allison Cole is an illustrator and artist who never stops creating. She loves dreaming up characters, scenes, and typography that reflect a playful spirit and bright colors. Over the past twelve years, she has worked with a wide variety of clients that span many different industries, including advertising, editorial, stationery, wall art, giftware, home furnishings, apparel, bolt fabric, and book covers. In addition to her client work, Allison launched her own boutique stationery line in 2014, Handmade by Allison Cole, that specializes in eco-friendly printed cards featuring her whimsical illustrations. Allison graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2003, and currently lives in Providence with her husband, son, and two cats.

This session will cover:

– Getting your illustrations on products
– Making money from product design
– Finding clients and creating products that sell

Session Three: Careers in Textile Design

Llew Mejia is a San Francisco based stylistic illustrator skilled in hand-drawn illustration, pattern/print, packaging, branding, and computer generated illustration. Llew creates richly wondrous images, full of exotic furled leaves and wide eyed beasts.Highly patterned, often brightly coloured, and yet with the old fashioned feel of wood block or lino prints, Llew has a truly unique style. He has worked with some of the most innovative brands in the world including: Starbucks Coffee, ADIDAS, OAK NYC, Reebok, Patagonia , ANTHROPOLOGIE, Time Out NY, Target , and Chipotle Mexican Grill, just to name a few.

This session will cover:

– Getting started in textile design

– Developing a unique style

– Finding clients and managing projects
